Wood Smoke Stories

Smoked out in New South Wales

We moved to a seaside village on the South Coast NSW in 2012 to get away from Sydney's pollution. Here we have smoke from other people’s wood fires for most of the day for at least 8 months of the year. We dry our washing indoors and do not open windows or doors for a lot of the year.

In the past 7 years my husband has had a stroke and heart attack and I have been diagnosed with Afib. We also both suffer from asthma. Our local council has been helpful with the shutdown of a chimney 7 metres from our property but still we cannot breathe from others in the neighbourhood.

At last count in a street of 120 houses, 85 had wood burning fireplaces. Surely someone has to take notice soon that people are sick and dying from the particulate in wood smoke.
